Insects - Science Sunday

It was a busy week here for homeschooling.

Kennedy finished Explode the Code book 1 1/2 and moved to the Hooked On Phonics first grade box. She is very proud of herself and has already read the first book but I want to make sure she is understanding before letting her move to the next lesson so we are taking it page by page. She can read but my goal is for her to read well. So slow it is.

Aubrey has also finished her first Explode the Code book, Book A, and is now in Book B.

Kennedy has mastered place value and has moved on to skip counting in the Math-U-See primer. She was having a bit of trouble with counting out loud by 2s, just 12-18 for some reason, but has conquered it and is ready to go forward.

At the end of the week we had a field trip scheduled. The local aquarium came to our homeschool group to talk about insects. We built our library list off this theme and spent the week talking bugs. We'll study more in a few weeks if when the weather warms up using our Flying Creatures of the Fifth Day book.

The girls really enjoyed the insect field trip.

Kennedy was able to participate in the metamorphosis of a monarch butterfly. She was the monarch caterpillar.

and then a beautiful monarch butterfly emerges!

Aubrey let a hissing cockroach crawl on her!

Sorry about the pictures. I didn't even think to take my camera and I don't have a fancy phone and the phone has seen better days. In fact, it is being held together with a rubberband. Classy.
